Who Is Really Reading Your Tweets?

by Brad MerrillFebruary 8, 2010

Are you a tweetaholic?  Are you tweeting every time you do something?  When you leave the house, do you tweet about it?  Are you driving down the road sending SMS tweets (very dangerous, people!)?

Did you know there was a website out there listing tweets where people say they’re leaving their house?  The website is called PleaseRobMe.com.  The intention of the website is not to promote burglary.  In fact, it’s quite contrary.  The goal of the site is to promote awareness of this privacy issue.  Many people are tweeting publicly without even knowing it!

I’m glad someone is finally opening people’s eyes to this.  You never know who is reading your tweets.  Think about this website next time you tweet.

If you’re going to post updates like these, make them PRIVATE!  It’s very easy and it only takes a moment of your time.

If you post something to the Internet, think first.  Expect the whole world to see it.  We don’t live in a perfect world, so there are many people out there who would be happy to take advantage of the info you’re providing them to rob you.
