How To Use the PS3 EYE Camera as a PC Webcam

by Brad MerrillFebruary 9, 2010

When I’m streaming on Ustream, you might be surprised to hear what camera I’m using. It’s not a PC webcam—it’s actually the PS3 Eye, the camera made for the PS3 for video chat, games, etc. It’s really a great camera with seemingly unattainable potential: if you plug it into your computer, you get nothing. Sadly, the manufacturer didn’t make driver software for PCs.

But there is a solution!

Code Laboratories has released a homebrew driver for the PS3 Eye. I’ve installed it, and now I’m using it as a PC webcam.

    it costs though

    • Yeah, it looks like they just recently started charging for it. It’s only $1.99 though!

    • It used to be free, but the developer recently started charging $1.99 for it. Still better than buying a new webcam though, if you ask me. 😉
