What Social Network Is Right For You?
Everybody knows that the use of social networking websites is growing. I have never run into the problem of not being able to find a friend’s profile or personal page and the growing number of friends’ parents that are adding me as a friend is almost starting to scare me. My dad is even on Facebook!
There are many different social networking websites that a person can choose from. The most popular being Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Bebo, ClassMates, Flickr, Friendster, and Hi5. For a more complete list, you can check out the Wikipedia article here.
Now me personally, I use Facebook and Twitter most avidly but I do have a Google Buzz, FourSquare and a couple other accounts. Now these aren’t the right sites for everyone but I’m going to try to help you pick the one that is right for you.
The main reason I use Facebook is because everyone that I know uses it. I don’t know if it’s just a Midwest thing or if it is this widespread all over but everyone that I have talked to here uses it. Another reason I use it is because if you know how to use all the settings right, it is a very clean, easy to use networking site that is very helpful. It is a very good archive for pictures and videos and also a very good place to get the word out about an event or product.
I use Twitter mostly for getting information, reading news and collaborating with new people. You can follow any person, organization or group to make Twitter exactly what you want it to be. I sometimes liken Twitter to watching TV, you can watch or subscribe to any channel that you want. If you are into sports you can follow your favorite sports channel, your favorite teams and your favorite players. This works for everybody, you can subscribe to whatever you want.
Those are the two social sites that I use the most, what I use them for and what I think they are good at. Now I want to know what you think. Do you agree with me? Do you use these sites for different things? What’s your favorite social networking site? Just leave a comment below with what you think or you can send me a message on Twitter @DevonSchreiner.
