Why I Don't Read Mashable

Mashable runs some great pieces, like the one I read today about how to pitch yourself as an expert. But I was about halfway through that article when a barrage of sound assaulted my ears—namely, three different audio ads playing at the same time. One was a Febreze commercial. The other two were incomprehensible.

Audio ads suck to begin with. They work for radio stations and podcasts because the central content is audio. On a blog, where the main content is text, auto-playing audio of any kind is a big no-no.

Let alone three different audio ads that play simultaneously (and abruptly, in the middle of the article).

It’s annoying, and it shows a complete disregard for your readers’ experience.
