Twitter has announced that its new Web profile design is now available to all users around the world.
The new design, which Twitter began rolling out two weeks ago, features a larger profile and customizable header, and highlights your “best” tweets by making them slightly larger. You can also pin one of your tweets to the top of your page, “so it’s easy for your followers to see what you’re all about.”
The new Twitter profile also includes several different timelines: Tweets, Tweets with photos/videos, and Tweets and replies.
One of the most interesting things about this design overhaul is its resemblance to Facebook.
For years, Twitter and Facebook have been selectively borrowing features and design aspects from one another. In this case, it seems Twitter is trying to capture more mainstream users by giving them what’s familiar: a Facebook-like interface.
Twitter has also been thinking about removing @ replies from its service in favor of Facebook-style mentions—though this has yet to materialize.
