Google is testing a new feature in Chrome for Mac that allows Chrome apps to register in OS X’s file associations to let you open files directly, as noted by Engadget.

The feature is available in Chrome Canary when you enable the following flag:

chrome://flags/#enable-apps-file-associations

Google plans to add this type of file integration to Windows and Linux in the future as well, but it has run into some issues. Windows, for example, doesn’t differentiate specific Chrome apps, instead labeling all of them as Google Chrome.
