Power Nap Alarm Clock: The Best App To Refresh Your Mind

Any time I can take a nap and pass it off as work, I jump at the opportunity. And that’s exactly what happened this evening when I tried Sleep Cycle Power Nap. And boy, do I feel good.

Made by Northcube, developer of the original Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock, the app uses the accelerometer in your iPhone to determine which phase of sleep you’re in, waking you before you fall into deep sleep, so you wake up feeling energized after a quick power nap.

How It Works

The process is simple. When you start the app, you have three nap options: power nap, recovery nap, and 1 sleep cycle.

Power Nap, the app’s main attraction, will wake you up just before you fall into deep sleep. Up to 20 minutes in length, a Power Nap is great for boosting energy and awareness during the day.

A Recovery Nap lasts up to 45 minutes. Again, the app will wake you before you enter deep sleep so you wake up feeling rested, not groggy.

And finally, you can choose to sleep a full sleep cycle, including deep sleep and REM. Typically 90 minutes (but potentially up to 120 minutes), this mode takes you through an entire sleep cycle, waking you when you return to light sleep. I imagine this one is the most effective of the bunch in terms of boosting energy and creativity.

After you choose a mode, just put your phone close to your body and go to sleep. I used my pants pocket, but it should be just as effective sitting on the bed next to you.

I had never used the original Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock, so I was skeptical about how well this app would work for me. But when I woke up feeling recharged without an ounce of grogginess, I was sold. The $1.99 I paid for the app was instantly justified.
