A Dating Website For Your Career

It’s no secret that most people hate their jobs.

Gallup Research found that 70 percent of American employees are disengaged at their current job. But what does disengaged mean, exactly? Michael Somers, founder of, told me it means that “people are living for the weekend. They do not enjoy going to work. They cringe on Sunday evening when thinking about going in on Monday.”

Work is a big part of most everyone’s life. Many of us spend the majority of our waking hours on our careers, so how can it be that 70 percent of people hate what they do?

Modern Survey conducted a study with similar findings—that 70 percent of people were disengaged at their jobs—but it also found that only 20 percent were seeking other employment. Why?

“Perhaps they thought there was nowhere for them to go,” said Somers. “Perhaps this was not their first job that they hated and they thought, ‘this is it, this is my life.'”

Somers set out to solve this problem by founding, which aims to help people avoid starting jobs they hate and, for those who have already fallen into dreadful positions, help them get out. It does this by providing “the right information at the right time in a meaningful way” and connecting people with opportunities to “micro-invest in a better future for work.”

It’s a dating website for your career, to put it in simple terms. It combines simple projects and full internships to help people find work they enjoy doing.

“Our algorithm matches people who want to work, with people who need work done in a powerful way that leads to on the job happiness at rocket speeds,” Somers told me.

michael_somers_cardCompanies can post internships on for free, find the perfect intern, and review their work. Interns can create a digital business card, set career goals, and use the platform to find the perfect internship and build their résumé. The service offers interns basic access to the platform for free, with the option of upgrading to a paid plan for advanced matching, search, and notifications of opportunities.

Internships on

As for usage stats, at the time of this writing, there are 1,119 interns and 93 companies on 39 percent of interns who have applied for a job have already been hired, and there are 72 internships open right now.

I think this is a great opportunity for both individuals who want to kick-start a career in a field they love and companies that need new talent and want to encourage people to pursue job satisfaction and fulfillment.
