faceitCompetitive gaming platform FACEIT today announced that it has reached 1.5 million registered users with over 5 million gaming sessions hosted on its site every month. The London startup has also announced a $2 million round of funding led by United Ventures.

Founded in 2012 by Niccolo Maisto, Alessandro Avallone, and Michele Attisani, FACEIT is commonly known in gaming circles as the “Twitch of competitions.” The company attributes its rapid growth to its unique approach to competitive eSports. It offers structured online tournaments as well as daily, weekly, and monthly leagues. The goal of the platform is to eliminate the difficulties gamers typically experience online, providing “the smoothest and most entertaining competitive experience available.”

Regular gaming sessions aside, the FACEIT Media division produces some of the most viewed eSports events in the world, reaching more than 2 million viewers per month and gathering over 500,000 followers on Twitch—placing it among the top 25 content producers of all time.

The new funding is being used to recruit “key personnel” as the company prepares to raise a Series A round.

“We aim to make it easy and enjoyable to play competitions on videogames, building an environment for players that wish to approach a competitive community,” said Niccolo Maisto, CEO of FACEIT. “The competitive experience on FACEIT is easier, faster and more scalable across games compared to competitors thanks to the proprietary technology of our platform. With rapid global expansion on the horizon our funding will also bolster our growth, allowing us to retain and increase our market position.”

“We were very impressed by the talents of the FACEIT team and their highly scalable, easy-to-use competitive platform for gamers,” said Massimiliano Magrini, Managing Partner at United Ventures. “We’re excited to assist the team’s journey and are looking forward to helping them scale the platform globally.”
