Facebook To Integrate E-Commerce Shops Into Pages

by Brad MerrillJuly 15, 2015

In a major move that could transform online commerce, Facebook is testing shops within Pages—mini e-commerce sites that bring everything from product discovery to checkout inside Facebook.

“With the shop section on the page, we’re now providing businesses with the ability to showcase their products directly on the page,” said Facebook product marketing manager Emma Rodgers.

Facebook will not initially take a cut of product sales on its platform, but its history is littered with instances where it has launched products with favorable terms for brands, only to change them up to increase revenue.

Pinterest, Twitter, and Google have already implemented their own Buy buttons to make e-commerce social, so Facebook’s Page-based shops come as no surprise.

It’s unclear when the new shopping feature will officially roll out. Facebook is working with a few launch partners, but we have yet to hear who they are.
