Tailgater Concierge Takes The Work Out Of Your Football Tailgating Experience
Chicago startup Tailgater Concierge is a new service that aims to offer college football fans an easier way to tailgate. It provides amenities including tents, tables, chairs, ice-filled coolers, and even BBQs and TVs.
Behind the company are co-founders Jennie LaGrow and Neil Golden. Jennie is a businesswoman from the financial world who has worked for companies like The Walt Disney Company and Computershare. Neil previously worked as Chief Marketing Officer for McDonald’s USA where he oversaw the national marketing efforts for nearly 14,000 McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S.
“Tailgater Concierge makes it easier for fans to enjoy their time with friends and family—and not deal with the responsibility of owning, hauling, setting-up, taking-down, cleaning, and storing their own equipment,” Jennie said in an interview. “The service is geared toward all fans attending the game—local home fans that don’t want to store and transport their own gear, home fans that have moved away, and visiting fans just in for the weekend.”
Beyond providing a killer tailgating experience, Tailgater Concierge wants to make a difference at universities and with students by contributing a portion of all sales to the university where each tailgate takes place, providing an annual scholarship, and offering students valuable employment opportunities.
“Consumers are seeking out opportunities to celebrate their passions and join with others who share a similar commitment and interest,” Jennie tells me. “College sports, most prominently football, represents one of the most popular passions when it comes to fan enthusiasm, attendance and support.”
Between 50 and 80 percent of college football attendees participate in a pre-game tailgate, so there’s a huge potential market for this service. The company got their first order within 24 hours of the website going live.
So far, Tailgater Concierge has partnered with the following 18 universities across the U.S. to provide tailgating services at their games: Arizona State University, Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Kent State University, Marshall University, Miami (Ohio) University, Mississippi State University, Northwestern University, Ohio University, Stanford University, University of Akron, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), University of Illinois, University of Michigan, University of Mississippi, University of Nebraska, University of Southern California (USC), Wake Forest.
Jennie says the company plans to bring its services to other sports and leagues in the future.
