Student Entrepreneurs: KOMPAS
- As the number of people travelling is increasing worldwide, we are looking for a way to understand a city’s history, see its true personality, and understand cultural differences.
Travel platforms are becoming quickly outdated, and many are looking to blogs or personal views as an alternative. As a result, too much time is being wasted searching on where to go, and how to get there. That’s why we’ve creating KOMPAS: the pocket guide to the world’s urban jungles. From a blog that started in Munich, we’re now building travel recommendations based on interests and locations, and we’re using disruptive technologies such as machine learning and narrow intelligence to do it.
Underground jazz bars, street murals and unique restaurants are just a few of the hidden places you can expect to find. We’re passionate travellers ourselves, and we want to make it easier for people to find their way around cities, and see a city for what it really is.
Since inception, we’ve had the opportunity to represent the UK at the World Final of the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards, and we’ve won the Third Year Abroad: Best Startup idea. We see the space becoming more and more personal, and believe that the on-stay experience is going to be what we, as travellers, rely on the most.
Tom Charman, CEO of KOMPAS.
